Walk to Defeat ALS

The ALS Association is the only non-profit organization fighting Lou Gehrig’s Disease on every front. By leading the way in global research, providing assistance for people with ALS through a nationwide network of chapters, coordinating multidisciplinary care through certified clinical care centers, and fostering government partnerships, The Association builds hope and enhances quality of life while aggressively searching for new treatments and a cure.

Each year, the Walk to Defeat ALSTM brings communities together in the fight against Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Though we walk for various reasons, we are united in our quest to find a cure for ALS.  For more information call 603-715-4854 or click here

2nd Annual Walk in Honor of Kimberly Ann Tudor


When: Saturday, September 11th
Time: Registration begins at noon, Walk begins at 1 p.m.
Where: Back Cove Boulevard, Portland

Join Kimberly's friends, family and supporters of the cause to help raise money for The Brain Aneurysm Foundation. The 2nd annual walk in honor of Kimberly Ann Tudor (KAT) will take place around a 3.5 mile stretch of the Back Cove Boulevard in Portland. Event day registration begins at noon, with the walk following at 1 p.m. The Brain Aneurysm Foundation is the nations only non-profit organization solely dedicated to providing critical awareness, education, support, and research funding to reduce the incidence of brain aneurysm ruptures.

Komen Maine Race for the Cure

Participate in the 14th Annual Susan G. Komen Maine Race for the Cure® and show everyone whose life you are running for. Are you running for your mother, your sister, a co-worker, a friend? Are you running for your own life? Or are you running for the future? No matter whose life you are running for, now is the time to get involved and run for their life!

2nd Annual NF Walk

Where: Water Street entrance of the Androscoggin River Bicycle and Pedestrian Path in Brunswick, ME

Neurofibromatosis is a devastating progressive disorder that causes tumors to grow throughout the body and affects one in every 3,000 children. The Children's Tumor Foundation is the leading source of non-profit funding for NF research - research that is shedding light on cancer, brain tumors, learning disabilities, and bone abnormalities - ultimately benefiting the broader community, in addition to those with NF.

13th Annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Maine Walk to Cure Diabetes


When:  Sunday, September 19th
Time:  11:00 a.m. (Check in:10:00 a.m.)
Where:  Payson Park, Portland

Ramblin' Jack Elliot


When: Wednesday, September 22nd
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Where: St. Lawrence Arts Center, Portland

Only 110 lucky people will get a chance to see Jack Elliot perform on the stage of the St. Lawrence Arts Center.  Bob Dylan calls Jack "One of the last true links to the great folk traditions of this country, with over 40 albums under his belt, Ramblin' Jack Elliot is one of the country's legendary foundations of folk music. Jack was King of the Folksingers." Jack is now nearly 80 years old and still going strong, but no one expects him to tour much longer. Portland's own Peter Alexander will be opening for Jack. 12th Annual Pumpkin Patch Trolley


When:  September 25th - 26th & October 2nd - 3rd
Time:  11 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Where:  Seashore Trolley Museum, Kennebunkport

Pumpkin Patch passengers are transported to Meserve's Crossing on one of the Museum's authentic antique streetcars.  After disembarking, passengers pick pumpkins from a field and children may choose to decorate their pumpkins with paints supplied by the Museum.  The pumpkins are then checked in and transported back to the Museum visitor center, where they can be picked up prior to leaving!  During rainy days, pumpkins and activites are held in an exhibit barn and/or under a tent. 
There is also an additional exhibit feature; 'A Seat for Everyone,' which focuses on the Civil Rights chapter of transportation history.  Click here for more information.

5th Annual Planet Dog Foundation Amateur Dog Show & Cover Dog Challenge


When: Saturday, October 2nd
Time: 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Where: Camp Ketcha, Scarborough

Woofminster 2010 is a fundraising event being held for well-behaved dogs and their people to raise money for the Planet Dog Foundation (PDF), Planet Dog's non-profit grant-making organization.

Winners of each category, plus 4 raffle winners, will compete in the Best in Show Cover Dog Challenge. The best all-around pooch will win a professional photo shoot and the chance to be on the cover of the next Planet Dog catalog. The event will also feature a high end raffle, local vendors, service dog puppies, a bake sale, photo booth, flyball and agility demonstrations, face painting and more. People without dogs are welcome as well.

Tickets are available in advance for $12 for adults, $5 for dogs and $5 for kids ages 7-18. Children under the age of 7 are free!
