8/20/15 Podcast Brad Garrett

In all of last year, there were 238 reports of small drone sightings by pilots near airports. This year, there have already been 650. Sen. Charles Schumer wants to require manufacturers to add software that makes them inoperable within 5 miles of any airport. Out West, where firefighters have spent most of the month battling wildfires, drones have hampered efforts from the air, and authorities want the ability to disable any drone that gets in the way. So far, there have not been any catastrophic collisions. But are we on that course, and will it take one before any meaty regulations are enacted?

For the moment, forget his Republican opponents, Donald Trump has been making the most noise with his attacks aimed at Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton, regarding her classified email problems. This tactical adjustment may have been inspired by new recent polls showing him edging closer to her in a head-to-head contest. And of course Clinton is having a heck of a time trying to get the focus away from her email problems. Brushing them off, joking about them… whatever she tries, nothing seems to be working.

Tom Brady will not attend Wednesday tomorrow’s oral arguments before Judge Berman that start at 10am. The NFL has declined to comment on whether Commissioner Goodell will be there. Neither was required to attend. There is no testimony. This is a chance for lawyers to make oral arguments following their written submissions late Friday, when the NFL asserted the court has no right to interfere into the internal management of a private organization and when the Players Association in turn questioned the structure of the arbitration. Absent a settlement, which is the preferred method of the judge, both sides have urged Berman to rule by Sept. 4, a week before the Patriots first regular season game. And those settlement talks, according to some reports, are at a stalemate.

Jared Fogle, the former Subway spokesperson whose home was raided by federal agents in connection with a child pornography investigation in early July, will indeed plead guilty to possession of child pornography charges. Several computers and DVDs were seized from Fogle’s home during the raid. When word of the raid broke out, Subway immediately ended their relationship with Fogle, despite his denials that he had done anything wrong. Fogle gained national fame after attributing massive weight loss to eating Subway sandwiches. He was a freshman at Indiana University at the time, and later became the key pitchman for the sandwich chain.
