Declaring a state of emergency, Hungary sealed off its southern border with Serbia on Tuesday and detained those trying to enter illegally. The move, aimed at shutting down the flow of migrants pouring in, resulted in the first string of refugees have been arrested on the Hungarian border since new border protection orders were put in place. .Chaos ensued as hundreds of migrants piled up in a no man’s land, and Serbian officials reacted with outrage. Stuck for an unknown amount of time on a strip of road between the two countries’ checkpoints, those fleeing violence in their homelands pitched tents and settled in. Some refused food and water in protest.

When Italian surgeon Dr. Sergio Canavero first announced his plans to conduct the first head transplant at some point, there were a few in the medical community who expressed some doubts. Well, undaunted, Canavero has his first patient… a volunteer, Russian-born Valery Sprinidov… who apparently would like to be on top of an entirely new body… and the surgery is slated for December 2017. Canavero and his supporters say new technology makes all of this possible, and the procedure will take about 36 hours. Others in the medical community aren’t convinced. As far as insurance goes, too early to tell.
