J.K. Rowling confesses ‘Harry Potter should have wed Hermione’

Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling regrets marrying Ron Weasley off to Hermione Granger at the end of the book series.

The author now says Potter himself should have wed Hermione.

In a new interview for Wonderland magazine, Rowling says, “I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment. That’s how it was conceived, really. For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron.”

In the epilogue to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which is set 19 years after the book ends, it is revealed that Harry Potter married Weasley’s sister Ginny, and Rowling admits she cheated book fans out of the ending they wished for.

She adds, “I’m sorry. I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I’m absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility. Am I breaking people’s hearts by saying this? I hope not.”

Ironically, the upcoming issue of Wonderland was guest edited by Emma Watson, who played Hermione in the Harry Potter movie franchise.
