MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The song was recorded by Lynyrd Skynyrd in Georgia. But that won’t stop tourism officials in the state-next-door from greeting motorists with a sign that reads “Welcome to Sweet Home Alabama.”

State officials say the signs featuring the song title will replace the “Alabama The Beautiful” signs that have stood at the state line along interstate highways since 2003.

State Tourism Director Lee Sentell says the Lynyrd Skynyrd song is known the world over — and the phrase “Sweet Home Alabama” makes people happy.
