Fridays are normally the best day of the week, except when they fall on the 13th day of the month. If you’re not fortunate enough to stay in bed all day and wait out the storm you need to take precautionary measures to keep your good luck!

1. Stepping on a crack
“Step on a crack, and break your mother’s back.” Injure your mother, or look like an idiot dancing up the sidewalk. The future is in your hands.

2. Breaking a mirror
They say that when you break a mirror you’re in for seven years of bad luck. Your first hardship will be a dangerous mess.

3. Walking under a ladder
Walking under a ladder is said to be bad luck. Even if it’s not, it seems like an unnecessary risk when heavy paint buckets and tool boxes are involved.

4. A bird flies in through the window
A wild bird flying into your house is said to bring bad luck, and even death. Also, probably bird poop and broken vases.

5. Spilling salt
Spilling salt is bad luck, and messy. Get back on track by throwing a pinch over your left shoulder. Only throw a pinch, not the salt shaker.

6. Getting up on the “wrong” side of the bed
It’s bad luck to get up on side of the bed that you didn’t climb into, but if someone asks you about the “wrong side of the bed” they’re probably calling you a grump.

7. Rocking an empty rocking chair
Rocking an empty rocking chair is said to bring death to the family. Plus, when you walk away it just looks creepy.

8. Giving a wallet or purse without money in it
Don’t blame your money problems on the economy if you’re using a wallet that was given to you empty! An empty purse or wallet is said to bring financial bad luck when given as a gift. Don’t get cheap, throw a dollar in there.

9. Playing with crutches
Sure, playing with crutches may look fun, but put them back or you’ll be next! Also, your friend needs them to walk.

10. Putting shoes on a table
Putting a pair of shoes on a table is said to be bad luck. It’s also gross. You eat there.

11. Open umbrellas in the house
Shake the rain off your umbrella before you come inside, but don’t forget to close it too! Opening umbrellas indoors is bad luck!

12. Never bring an old broom into a new house
Your new place may need some spring cleaning, but you should invest in a new broom before you get to work! Using an old broom will “sweep” all of the old home’s bad luck into your new place.

13. “Lucky” number 13
There are many reasons the number 13 has an unlucky reputation, just ask anyone who suffers from Triskaidekaphobia (that’s the fear of the number 13. It’s a real thing, we swear.)
