The internet has buzzed with reports that a somewhat large list of popular artists have pledged to join in on Stevie Wonder’s boycott of Florida over its “Stand Your Ground” law.

But there’s some doubt now about the validity of the list.

It includes names such as Madonna, Usher, Kanye West, Trey Songz, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, R. Kelly, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, and the Rolling Stones among others.

First posted by the Urban Radio Network’s April Ryan, the list was compiled via “sources close to the Stevie Wonder camp.”

At least 21 states have “Stand Your Ground” laws similar to Florida’s.

Many reps have reached out to various news sources questioning the validity of the list, however. PolitiFact Florida labeled the accusations “False,” saying that despite the fact that many of the artists might have spoken out against such laws, few have said they are boycotting the state.

Alicia Keys and the Rolling Stones appear to be distancing themselves from the boycott. Madonna appears not to be joining the boycott as well. Jay-Z’s planned concert appearance in Miami with Justin Timberlake is still scheduled to happen according to concert promoters.

Ryan has since updated the list with a disclaimer, saying that she has “heard from several representatives of the artists named who say, on behalf of their clients, they are uncomfortable being identified on that list and are seeking additional information.”
