Police say a suspect has been identified after a threat forced students and staff to evacuate Mount Desert Island High School Tuesday afternoon.

The Bar Harbor Police Dept. says the school went on lockdown after a member of the high school’s administration received a “serious and credible threat.”

The Bangor Daily News reports that the suspect is a juvenile.

Bar Harbor police say they’re working with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine Dept. of Corrections’ Office of Juvenile Services on an ongoing investigation.

Shortly after the lockdown was issued, students were evacuated from the high school and bused to Mount Desert Elementary School in Northeast Harbor.

Parents were told to pick up their children at the elementary school, and according to the BDN, students weren’t released to their parents until about 5:30 p.m.
