VINALHAVEN – (Portland Press Herald) A pilot along with the patient and EMT attempting to fly to the hospital in a single engine Cessna 207 crashed in Vinalhaven Friday night but did escape serious injury.  The crash happened just after the plane took off while the Knox County Sheriff and fire and EMS personnel were still on site. They were able to provide aid to the victims and helped plug any leaks from the plane’s fuel tank.   The pilot and EMT were assessed and released at the scene with only minor injuries.  The patient being transported to the hospital was able to board another plane from Penobscot Island Air along with another EMT and made it to the hospital by 7pm Friday night.  An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
