Matthew Gagnon


Matthew Gagnon is the host of the WGAN Morning News, heard every weekday from 6-9 AM on WGAN.

In addition to hosting the morning program, Matt also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Maine Policy Institute, Maine’s premier free market policy think tank, a position he has held since September of 2014.

Matt grew up in Eastern Maine in the town of Hampden and after High School went on to the University of Maine, studying Political Science with a concentration in American Government and Comparative Politics. After college, Matt moved to Washington, DC where he spent nearly ten years working in elective politics.

Prior to returning to Maine, Matt spent three years as Director of Digital Strategy for the Republican Governors Association, where he was recognized by Campaigns & Elections Magazine as one of the top campaign strategists in the country. He also spent time on Capitol Hill and worked for the National Republican Senatorial Committee in 2010 where he helped spearhead digital strategy for 37 U.S. Senate races across the country. Matt has served as a senior strategist helping more than 100 candidates for US Senate, Congress, and governor in 49 states. While in Washington, Matt also started a communications and digital consulting firm, working with political clients on messaging and helping them leverage technology for use in campaigns.

For the past thirteen years, Matt has also served as the primary conservative voice in the editorial pages of the Bangor Daily News, where he writes a column that is printed each Thursday.

Matt is an avid baseball fan and Little League coach, as well as a an accomplished writer, photographer, graphic designer and jazz musician. He and his wife have five children, and live in Yarmouth.
