A 22-year-old South Portland man faces numerous charges, includng assault after being accused of stabbing a 37-year-old man late last night in Portland.
Officers say witnesses reported the stabbing in the area of 35 Wharf Street at about 11:30 pm. and then fled towards Dana Street. They say on arrival, officers applied chest seals and other first aid measures to the injured man while they waited for paramedics to arrive.
The injured man was taken to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers say Samuel Gerry was arrested a short time later at Wharf and Union.
Gerry faces charges of Elevated Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of Cocaine, Trafficking in Prison Contraband and Falsifying Physical Evidence.
