MONTVILLE, Maine (WGAN) Three people have died as a result of an explosion and fire in Montville.

Investigators say the blast was caused by a propane-powered stove. It happened at a home on Darci Road late Wednesday afternoon.

Maine Public Safety Spokeswoman Shannon Moss says 88-year-old Rocco Taddeo was found dead inside the home following the blast.

The homeowner, 74-year-old Stuart Nichols, as well as a relative, 78-year-old Robert Gorham of Buxton, died after being brought to the hospital in critical condition.

Investigators said gas was leaking from an appliance inside the home. Nichols and Gorham were outside when Taddeo attempted to light the stove, causing the explosion. Nichols and Gorham were thrown back into some nearby trees.
