One person was found dead after a house fire in Washington County.

The Maine Fire Marshal’s Office says multiple departments responded to the fire Sunday evening at a home on Main Street in Meddybemps.

The home was fully engulfed by the time crews arrived, with flames spreading to a vehicle in the driveway.

Investigators found the remains of an adult inside the home, which were taken to a local funeral home where a representative with the state medical examiner’s office was expected to do an autopsy.

The fire’s cause is under investigation.
