PORTLAND, Maine (AP)  The U.S. Coast Guard says one person has been injured in a boat explosion and fire near Chebeague Island in Maine’s Casco Bay.

Authorities say the man was rescued from the water by a nearby boater on Saturday night.

Officials say the man was taken to Little John Island and then transported to Maine Medical Center with second-degree burns. No one else was on the boat at the time.

The wreckage of the 34-foot boat sank.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. Officials say they believe the boat may have been undergoing maintenance at the time of the explosion.
