1 person found dead at scene of Harpswell house fire

First responders recovered a body following a house fire in Harpswell early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters responded to the home on Harpswell Neck Road, where they removed one person from the building, believed to be 78-year-old Hugh MacFarlane, and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The medical examiner will determine a cause and manner of death, while the cause of the fire is being investigated.

The fire caused significant damage to the home, particularly on the second floor.
