11 people injured after walkway to lighthouse collapses

11 people are injured after the walkway to Doubling Point Lighthouse in Arrowsic collapsed Saturday afternoon.

According to CBS 13, the walkway collapsed around 1 p.m., while a group of people were walking to the lighthouse. Five people were sent to nearby hospitals. Six others were treated at the scene.

The incident occurred on Maine’s Open Lighthouse Day, which grants free visitation to many of Maine’s lighthouses for the day. The event attracts 15,000 to 18,000 people annually.
