YORK, Maine (AP)  A pair of guys from Maine and New Hampshire are preparing to ride across Europe, Russia and Mongolia in a three-wheeled car.

John Parrinello, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, admits it’s a “little insane.”

Parrinello and Tanner Pidgeon, of York, Maine, tell the Portsmouth Herald that they learned of the 10,000-mile Mongol Rally from the British organization The Adventurists. The organization’s motto is, “Fighting to Make the World Less Boring.”

The 25-year-olds who attended Maine Maritime Academy together plan to race in a 1987 Reliant Rialto Saloon three-wheel car they bought on Facebook.

They’ll be raising $1,500 for nonprofits including the Team Trevor Foundation, started by the parents of Traip Academy graduate who suffers from cystic fibrosis.

The rally starts later this month in the Czech Republic and ends in Siberia.
