The Maine Center for Disease Control reported a total of 1,374 coronavirus cases on Friday, an increase of 44 cases compared to the day before, and one new death.
63 Mainers who tested positive have lost their lives. The latest was a man in his 60s from Hancock County.
As of Friday, 296 healthcare workers have tested positive for the virus. That’s approximately 21.5% of the state’s total number of cases.
Of the 1,374 cases reported in Maine to date, 110 are considered probable by the Maine CDC. 475 of all reported cases are still active, a decrease of 6 since Thursday.
194 individuals with COVID-19 have been hospitalized at some point. 836 people in the state have recovered, an increase of 49 since the previous day.
44 people were hospitalized with coronavirus as of Friday, an increase of 4 since the day before. 23 are in critical care and 10 are on ventilators.
The Maine CDC continues to monitor outbreaks at nursing homes and other long-term care facilities around the state. The latest includes the Springbrook nursing home in Westbrook, which reported 13 new cases on Thursday.
The Tyson meat processing plant in Portland re-opened on Thursday, after 51 workers tested positive. Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah says the plant was idled for a few days while universal testing got underway and the plant was deep-cleaned. No new cases had been reported as of Friday.
CDC officials are monitoring a recent outbreak at the Springbrook nursing facility in Westbrook. One new case was reported on Friday, bringing the total number of cases at the facility to 14. Among those, 13 are residents and one is a staff member.
Appearing alongside Dr. Shah during Wednesday’s daily briefing, Governor Janet Mills on Wednesday announced the creation of the “Economic Recovery Committee” to come up with ways to blunt the economic impact of the pandemic.
