Three Maine airports are getting more than $13 million from the federal government for improvements.

Republican Sen. Susan Collins says the Eastport Municipal Airport will receive $5.2 million, the Biddeford Municipal Airport $7.5 million, and Newton Field Airport in Jackman more than $1 million.

Collins said the investments will allow the airports to make much-needed improvements to taxiways and runways, improving safety and efficiency.

The funds will come from the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program.

Collins said the improvements are vital because airports “promote job creation and economic development through the surrounding communities.”
