Police are investigating after a three-year-old died from apparent exposure to the elements in Corinna.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office says a 911 caller told dispatchers her nephew had gone missing around 8:30 a.m. Sunday from the family residence on Exeter Road.

The child was later found by his father outside in the snow. The child succumbed to his injuries, which investigators say appear to be consistent with exposure to the elements.

The child’s body was brought to the medical examiner’s office to determine cause and manner of death.

No arrests have been made in the investigation.

Police say the death appears to be an isolated incident that poses no threat to public safety.
