AUGUSTA (WGME) — In a week of higher positive test results for coronavirus among Mainers, the Maine Centers for Disease Control said a York County man in his 60s died and 42 new cases were diagnosed in its Sunday update.

Between confirmed and probable cases, Maine has now seen 2,055 COVID-19 cases, where 1,263 residents have recovered and now 78 have died, the ninth in York County.

Maine CDC said currently hospitalizations rose by nine to 59, with one new critical care case and two new patients on ventilators.

More than half of the new cases come from Cumberland County, which now has 1,032 cases and 590 recoveries.

More reported cases was expected as Maine increased its testing capacity, and as more test sites come line including at York High School in early June for drive-by testing positive test results are projected to keep rising.

Since Monday, May 18, when total cases were 1,713, Maine has seen an increase of 342 total cases.

Confirmed cases total 1,845, with 210 probable cases. Those numbers on May 18 were 1,533 and 180.

Since Monday, seven people with coronavirus have died.
