A $5,000 reward is being offered for information about an unmanned research vessel that went missing in the Gulf of Maine.

Researchers with the Northeastern Regional Association of Coastal Ocean Observing Systems lost contact with the SeaTrac USV on Oct. 12 when it was about 30 miles southeast of Frenchman Bay, near Bar Harbor.

The vessel was monitoring an algal bloom that’s been killing off shellfish.

The vessel is yellow with markings that read “uncrewed service vehicle” on the stern and “SeaTrac” on the bow.

The organization shared the map below as an estimation of where the vessel was before they lost contact.

Anyone who spots the vessel can reach out to Mike Brosnahan at mbrosnahan@whoi.edu or 508-289-3633.
