A staff member from Canaan Elementary School is now considered a “probable” positive case of COVID-19, according to a letter sent out by superintendent Jon Moody  on Friday.

According to our news partners at CBS 13 News, the Maine CDC has directed the school to quarantine two of the elementary classrooms because of the coronavirus cases.

Moody said the school was trying to be proactive with distant learning, writing, “We will be sending home devices with our CES students today in the event we are unable to return to in-person instruction on Monday.”

Canaan currently has three classrooms, including 47 students and nine students who have been asked to quarantine.

Moody said the positive case was a result of contact this person had outside of school.

Canaan Elementary will work with the Maine CDC over the weekend to determine its next steps.
