The Androscoggin Paper Mill in Jay is facing a third round of layoffs following an explosion there in July.

Pixelle Speciality Solutions, which owns the mill, announced it would reduce it’s workforce by 67 workers on Wednesday.

In a press release, Androscoggin Mill Manager Eric Hanson said: “No one foresaw, wanted or caused the rupture that led to these unfortunate reductions of valued team members. We will provide those affected with compensation, benefits, and job placement assistance.”

With this most recent round of layoffs, the company has now let go a total of 177 mill workers since the explosion over the summer, which happened when a pulp digester ruptured. No one was injured in the blast.
