PORTLAND (WGAN) Maine’s two U.S. Senators say the state has secured $750,000 in federal funding for a new park along Portland’s eastern waterfront.

Senators Susan Collins and Angus King put out a joint statement on Tuesday, touting plans for the new “Portland Landing,” which would be placed behind the Ocean Gateway cruise ship terminal.

In total, the plan for the park calls for about $16 million in funding. In the meantime, the Portland Press Herald reports the city hired a contractor to create an interim park at the site, with a price tag of $176,000.
