An Etna man has been found guilty of stealing the identity of his brother who died in 1939.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine says 86-year-old Napoleon Gonzalez took on the identity of his brother, Guillermo Gonzalez, when he died as an infant. Prosecutors says Napoleon has obtained multiple passports and filed for Social Security retirement benefits using his brother’s name.

In U.S. District Court in Bangor on Friday, Gonzalez was found guilty of identity theft, passport fraud, Social Security fraud and mail fraud.

He faces up to fifty years behind bars for all of the charges and up to three years supervised release. He could also pay up to $250,000 in fines.
