Nine family members are displaced after their home was heavily damaged by an early morning fire in Waterville on Thursday.
Firefighters say they arrived at the scene on Chase Avenue at about 3:15 am to find a two-story single-family home under heavy fire conditions.
They say the fire was elevated to a second alarm, and they were to quickly bring it under control with the help of three other fire departments – the Winslow, Oakland, and Skowhegan departments -although the building received heavy fire and smoke damage.
One family member was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
The Maine State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
