A Pregnant Lobster Found at a Utah Red Lobster, Doesn’t Make It to Portland Alive

The late "Claudia"/Liv Kelleher, KUTV

A pregnant lobster that was found at a Red Lobster in Utah died while being shipped to Maine.

Employees at the restaurant found the lobster carrying thousands of eggs, which makes the lobster, dubbed “Claudia”, protected under federal law.

Claudia was shipped overnight to Portland Friday morning but didn’t survive the journey.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says it may not have been clear that Claudia was expecting when she was caught, because lobsters can take up to a year to fertilize their eggs.
