(WGME) — Christmas Day will see active wintry weather with both snow and ice depending on location. There is a Winter Weather Advisory for much of New Hampshire and York County until Sunday 7 a.m. Here are the details:
CHRISTMAS MORNING: Snow will move in from the west, crossing the Maine border by 7 a.m. or so. For most of western and central Maine, this snow will continue through the afternoon. For much of New Hampshire and far southern Maine, primarily York County, this will start as snow, but turn to sleet or freezing rain through the morning from south to north.
CHRISTMAS AFTERNOON: Expect snow to continue for most. Overall snowfall should be on the light side. Accumulations will mostly be in the 1-3″ range. In far southern Maine, like York and parts of Cumberland counties, more wintry mix or freezing rain will fall. Ice accumulations in York County may reach up to a tenth of an inch in addition to some minor sleet and snow accumulations.
CHRISTMAS EVENING/NIGHT: There will likely be a break in the precipitation for much of the evening hours, but expect a second round late evening into the night with more minor accumulations from snow or ice.
SUNDAY MORNING: Snow will wrap up early in the day. Brighter skies are possible late. Temperatures reach the mid 30s.
LOOKING AHEAD: Monday and Tuesday should be quiet with some sunshine. Another storm could bring more rain, wintry mix, and snow late Wednesday into Thursday.
