Police identify suspect in police shooting in Augusta

A Lewiston man died Sunday night after a police-involved shooting.

According to the Portland Press Herald, officers were called to an apartment building on Northern Ave. around 11 p.m. Officers were responding a report of a man threatening residents with a gun.

Interim Augusta Police Chief Kevin Lully says the man shot at officers, and they returned fire.

On Monday, police said the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Liban Mohamed, had died.

Officials say four police officers who fired shots were placed on administrative leave, standard procedure following police shootings in Maine.
