Air Concerns in Maine Still Exists from Canadian Wildfires

Portland and the rest of the southern coast of Maine is under moderate conditions for Ozone Monday while the entire state is under an air quality alert until 11 pm for particle pollution.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires is being pushed through the state ahead of a cold front, according to the state Department of Environmental Protection.

Particle pollution for the entire state is Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups on Monday. The condition means people with heart or lung disease, the elderly, teenagers, and children should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion.

The conditions are an improvement from Sunday when particle pollution was unhealthy in Northern Maine.

The smoke plume is expected to gradually move south through the state on Monday and may linger until late Tuesday. Forecasters warned that alerts may be extended.
