All of Maine’s counties are now in the green category under the state’s COVID-19 school health advisory system.

In an update released Friday, the administration of Governor Janet Mills announced that Androscoggin, Franklin, Oxford, and York counties are joining all other counties in the green category, which suggests all in-person learning at schools there can take place. New data shows those counties have seen dramatic drops in their new case and positivity rates.

The last time all counties were designated green was back in October.

The Mills administration says evidence continues to show that transmission of the virus is much lower in schools than in the general population. They say the rate of new cases in schools in the last 30 days was 36 per 10,000 staff and students, compared to 81 per 10,000 people statewide.
