An Androscoggin County Man Arrested on Charges of Animal Cruelty After Allegedly Shooting and Killing a Cat

An Androscoggin County man is charged with a felony for cruelty to animals after allegedly shooting and killing a cat.

34-year-old Jake Cyr of Greene allegedly shot the feline 5 times.

The cat was discovered by Animal Control Officer Rich Burton not far from Cyr’s residents and was told by neighbors that Cyr had the cat and planned to shoot it.

After a short confrontation between the men, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department arrested Cyr.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Cyr was originally charged with a felony, but it was later downgraded to a misdemeanor.

The incident is under investigation.
