On Friday, an Ellsworth man was acquitted of attempted murder after being charged after a police shootout.

In December of 2023, 69-year-old Jeffrey Paine, had police at his apartment door when his gun he was holding went off near the officers.

Officers did fire back, hitting Paine in the arm but because he didn’t drop his gun, police had to subdue him with a stun gun.

Paine had an outstanding warrant, and police were there to arrest him.

Although Paine was found not guilty of attempted murder, he was found guilty of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.
