The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting another earthquake in Maine, although this one took place hundreds of miles north of last month’s tremor near York Harbor.
The latest quake was recorded Sunday night 22 miles northwest of Millinocket with a 2.5 magnitude and a depth was about 6.6 miles.
The Geological Survey says five people reported feeling the most recent temblor.
Last month’s earthquake was larger at a 3.8 magnitude and was followed by a couple of 2.0 magnitude aftershocks. The Geological Survey also it 42,000 reports of feeling that quake, which took place on January 27.
Maine Emergency Management says Maine experiences an average of five earthquakes per year.
A 2.5 magnitude earthquake took place in August of 2023 near the Turner-Livermore in Androscoggin County.
