Investigators have arrested a homeless person accused of setting a fire that caused about $20,000 in damage to a business in Bangor.

The fire was reported around 11:50 p.m. Monday night at Bangor Braces on Harlow Street, which was unoccupied at the time.

The fire was found to have started near two plastic trash cans before spreading to the building’s interior, leading investigators to rule the fire arson.

30-year-old Kerry Smith was arrested and charged with arson before being taken to Penobscot County Jail.
