After a failed attempt to get on the ballot this year, a new petition drive has began aimed at blocking CMP’s controversial transmission line.

Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap approved petitions for the group “No CMP Corridor” last week.

In an effort to get enough signatures to get on the ballot next year, volunteers ensued onto 120 polling locations across the state to collect signature.

The Maine Supreme Court blocked their efforts this year, citing the wording of the question violated the state constitution.

Project opponents are hopeful that a second referendum will gain enough traction to ban all high-impact transmission lines in Maine without the approval of the legislature.
