A district attorney has recused himself from prosecuting former Maine gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler, who faces child pornography charges.

According to the Bangor Daily News, Matthew Foster, the district attorney for Hancock and Washington counties, shares the same attorney as Cutler.

Foster said Monday he was recusing himself from any involvement with any of attorney Walter McKee’s cases in his district.

Cutler, who ran for governor in 2010 and 2014, is facing four felony charges of possessing sexually explicit material involving a child under the age of 12.
