PORTLAND, Maine (AP) The attorney for a man who killed a deputy in Maine is seeking a new trial because prosecutors failed to turn over information that could have helped the defense.

The defense contends prosecutors failed to disclose that one of the troopers who arrested John Williams was disciplined for failing to report potential misconduct of another officer. The discipline came one day before the trooper testified at a suppression hearing.

The state supreme court upheld William’s conviction in November, rejecting his argument that his confession should’ve been suppressed and that the sentence of life in prison was was excessive.

Williams was sentenced for the killing of Corporal Eugene Cole in Norridgewock in 2018
