Auburn police charge transient in multiple convenience store robberies

A local transient accused of robbing the same Auburn convenience store twice has been arrested.

Police say they responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Circle K on Center Street Tuesday night around 9 p.m. The clerk told police a man had demanded money from the register, then fled.

A K-9 unit led officers to an apartment on Vernon Street where they located a homeless man, 24-year-old Shawn Small, who was hiding inside.

Officers found a BB gun and clothing believed to have been used in the robbery.

Police said Small admitted to the robbery, as well as another robbery at the same store on August 31st.

He was charged with two counts each of robbery and theft, and is being held at Androscoggin County Jail on $50,000 cash bail.
