AUBURN (WGME) — Teachers and staff will be holding a “stand-in” on the steps of city hall to protest the school’s plan for reopening.

The teachers claim that they had spent months putting together a plan that combines aspects of both remote and hybrid learning in accordance with state health and safety guidelines. The aim of which to give students a chance for some in-person learning.

They feel their recommendations were ignored, as the school committee introduced a new model where families can choose between fully remote learning, or hybrid learning.

This proposal threw teachers and staff off track, and many say it could threaten the health and safety of students and staff.

“Just to like pull the rug out from underneath you and add in a plan and say figure it out,” said Park Avenue Elementary School teacher Courtney Pierce.

The demonstration will be held on the steps of Auburn City hall, Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
