Augusta house fire forces evacuation of six


An early Saturday morning fire at an apartment building in Augusta forced the evacuation of 6 residents.

The Augusta fire department responded to 37 Chapel Street at 6:13 a.m. for the reported fire.

The fire department says fire damage was contained to an un-occupied third floor apartment, mainly used for storage and was able to subdue the fire by 7 am.

No cause for the fire has yet been determined.

It’s currently being investigated by the state fire marshal’s office.
