Augusta man dies after he is hit by car Friday night

AUGUSTA (WGME) — An Augusta man died overnight after police said he was hit by a car while walking in the city Friday night.

The accident happened around 7:15 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Western Avenue and Sewall Street, Augusta Police said.

The victim, Dana Banister, 52, of Augusta was hit by a var driven by Eugene Whipple, 45, of Augusta.

Banister was taken to a hospital. Saturday morning Augusta Police said he died from his injuries.

The fatal accident remains under investigation.
