Baby Born in Presque Isle Is Maine’s First Birth of 2019

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (AP) Hospital officials say Maine’s first new baby of 2019 arrived in the northern reaches of the state just minutes after the countdown.

Danielle Doyle and Kyle Williams say their daughter, Karly, was born at 12:09 a.m. on New Year’s Day. The baby was born at Northern Light AR Gould Hospital in Presque Isle. Doyle says Karly has received a “clean bill of health.”

She says she didn’t expect her baby to be the first one born in the new year in Maine, even though her due date was Jan. 1.

Just 12 minutes later, Lev McGuckin was born in Portland’s Maine Medical Center at 12:21 a.m. Jan. 1. The hospital says both the baby and mother are in good health.
