Bail has been set at $75,000 cash for a Palmyra man accused of trying to kill, kidnap and beat his former girlfriend.

Brandon Rego made his first court appearance before Superior Court Justice Ann Murray remotely from the Penobscot County Jail.

According to the Bangor Daily News, the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office arrested him Wednesday morning at the request of Brewer police.

He faces a long list of charges, including attempted murder and kidnapping and two counts of aggravated assault.

The BDN reports that he was not asked to enter pleas because he had not yet been indicted by a Penobscot County Grand Jury.

His former girlfriend, who’s from Brewer, claims she was the victim of ongoing and escalating abuse over the course of a two-and-a-half-year relationship.
