BANGOR, Maine (WGAN) A Bangor man is accused of stealing a valuable car part from parked vehicles.

Police Sgt. Wade Betters says 41-year-old Benjamin Deane is accused of removing catalytic converters from vehicles that were parked on Main Street early Friday morning.

Betters says they found two of the converters in Deane’s possession, along with other evidence linking him to the thefts.

Deane, who also had three warrants out for his arrest, was taken to Penobscot County Jail. He’s been charged with two counts of criminal mischief, two counts of felony theft, and one count of violation of bail.

The parts contain precious metals like rhodium, palladium and platinum, which make them valuable for scrapping.
