Bangor police arrest man who reportedly led them on chase while driving a moped

A man faces drug charges after Bangor police say he led them on a chase while driving a moped.

Police say they attempted to stop the moped around 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of Third and Buck Streets.

However, the driver reportedly kept going, and the officer did not pursue the vehicle.

A short time later, police say the driver was located, but he refused to identify himself, and he eventually fled the scene on the moped.

An officer pursed the vehicle at speeds of up to 35 mph.

The suspect attempted to drive across a baseball field near Vine Street School, but the moped bogged down in the soft ground, and the suspect was caught by an officer who was on foot.

The suspect was identified as Steven Bell, 37, of Bangor, who had five active warrants for his arrest.

Police say they searched the man and found a substantial amount of heroin and fentanyl, as well as a large amount of cash.
