BELFAST (BDN)— For over 25 years, Belfast has had the pleasure of hosting musicians in its streets on a weekly basis as part of the ‘Belfast Summer Nights’. However, the pandemic and social distancing put a halt on this heartwarming tradition. That is, until its founders devised a creative solution: boats!

The music series has been a staple of Belfast culture for years now, and co-organizers Ando Anderson and Annadeene Konesni could not be more thrilled that the project is back off the ground and into the water.

Anderson has shared his vision of a flotilla of kayaks, canoes and other boats on the river and in the bay. As well as encourages people to decorate their vessels along the theme of “Keeping friends and Neighbors healthy”, awarding prizes to those that have the most fun with the challenge.

Both coordinators are taking the health-aspect of the event very seriously, too. With Anderson stating that “We don’t want people to get sick. We don’t want Belfast summer nights to be Miami Beach. We don’t want people to act stupid or get hurt”

The event is set to start at 5:30 pm on Thursday. With local musicians Muskeg, Shirt Tail Kin, Curtis Russett, Ezra Rugg and many others performing from the center of the Armistice foot Bridge, with the audience in the water below.

A local radio station, WBFY-FM is lending speakers for the event, as well as broadcasting the show at a later date.

Other bridge concerts are scheduled for Aug. 6 and Sept. 3.
