Berwick Fire Department holds memorial service to remember fallen firefighter

A virtual gathering took place Monday on the two-year anniversary of a Berwick fire captain’s death.

Fire Captain Joel Barnes died fighting a fire in an apartment building on March 1st, 2019. Barnes became trapped by fire in the stairwell, and threw himself on top of another firefighter to save his life.

The fire department gathered virtually on Monday for a memorial service, according to CBS 13 news. The department said on Facebook they are planning on holding another service later this year.
