A Biddeford trash truck scattering metal debris on the road is being blamed for causing numerous flat tires on I-95 on Wednesday.

The city of Biddeford reports that the drive shaft and transmission broke on the city-owned truck, which scattered metal debris across the road.

The city says several passing cars struck the debris, leading to eight reports of flat tires, while one airborne piece of metal struck a passenger car and broke its rear window.

No injuries have been reported.

Maine State Police and Maine Turnpike Authority responded to the incident.

The truck was on its way to dispose trash at Pine Tree Waste. No disruptions to Biddeford’s trash collection schedule are expected, according to the city.
